DABU prints, originating from Rajasthan, India, are a unique form of block printing known for their intricate designs and the use of natural dyes. The process involves using a specially prepared mud resist (Dabu), applied with wooden blocks, followed by dyeing in indigo or other natural colors. Once the fabric is dyed, the mud resist is washed off, revealing a white or differently colored pattern against a dyed background. This eco-friendly, labor-intensive technique creates distinctive motifs often inspired by nature and local culture. DABU prints are celebrated for their earthy and rustic appeal and are increasingly popular in sustainable fashion circles.
