Dabu printing, originating from Rajasthan, India, is a traditional mud-resist hand-block printing technique. It involves applying a specially prepared muddy paste as a resist agent, using intricately carved wooden blocks, onto the fabric. Once the mud is applied, the fabric is typically covered with sawdust to prevent the design from smudging, and then dyed using natural dyes. The areas covered in mud resist the dye, thereby creating unique patterns once the mud is washed off. Dabu prints are celebrated for their earthy and rustic appeal, showcasing motifs inspired by nature and local culture. This eco-friendly art form supports sustainable fashion and preserves ancient textile traditions.
