Dabu printing is a traditional Indian textile printing technique, notable for its intricate designs and unique mud resist process. Originating in Rajasthan, this method involves using a specially prepared mud (Dabu) to resist dye. Artisans hand-print patterns onto cloth using wooden blocks dipped in the mud mixture. After mud application, the fabric is sprinkled with sawdust for adherence and left to dry. It's then dyed, typically in indigo, creating a striking contrast where the mud-resist areas remain uncolored. Post-dyeing, the mud is washed off, revealing intricate designs. Dabu prints are celebrated for their earthy tones and ethnic motifs, embodying a blend of cultural heritage and sustainable practices.
